For example, if the nail curls around your dog’s paw, the nail can pierce the underside of their paw, which can cause severe pain and even lead to infection. Walking with long nails for a long period can also affect the way your dog walks. Imagine walking with shoes that are one or two sizes smaller.

However, there are some things you can do at home to help keep your dog’s nails trimmed and healthy. The first thing you should avoid overgrown nails is making sure they get plenty of exercise so that their nails naturally get filed when they walk or run.
